字幼清，撫州崇仁人。生三歲，頴悟日發五歲勤學，夜讀書。至旦，母憂其過，勞節膏火不多與，澄候寢然火復誦。既長，貫穿經傳，嘗舉進士不中。至元十三年，樂安鄭松招澄居布水谷，乃著《孝經章句》，校定六籍。御史程鉅夫奉詔求賢，起澄至京師。未幾，以母老辭歸。左丞董士選延之於家，親執饋食曰：「吳先生，天下士也」。既入朝，薦澄有道，擢應奉翰林文字。有司敦勸，久之方至，聞已有代者，即日南歸。未幾，除江西儒學副提舉，以疾去官。至大元年，召為國子監丞，陞司業，立教法四條，未及行，一夕謝去。俄拜集賢直學士，疾作，不果行。泰定元年，充經筵講官，修《英宗實録》成，未上，即移疾歸。詔加資善大夫，賜鈔五千貫。卒，年八十五。學者稱草廬先生。贈左丞，追封臨川郡公，諡文正。 按：元儒先後軰出于趙、江、漢諸公外，其著者則導江張䇓、蘭谿金履祥、休寧陳櫟、資州黃澤、北海蕭㪺、豫章熊朋來等諸所譔述，皆有功，聖賢甚大惜，其詩不傳，故于是編莫由采入也。
