《卷十八 舟語》
3  | 東莞艔船趕水，常以一人執杵在船頭，以忤左右舂船，為搖櫓疾徐之節。左舂則足左躍，右舂則足右躍，諸櫓人以之作勢，以之齊聲。又口唱山歌，使諸櫓人屬和以蘇其苦，於是筋力盡㤀，舟行迅速，須臾至彼步頭矣。此古舂堂之遺俗也。《寰宇記》云：「新州俗，豪渠之家，𠷔祭則鳴銅鼓，召衆則鳴舂堂。」按舂堂狀如小船，長丈餘，兩三人交擊。一云刳木為槽，旁約十杵，男女間𡗓舂穀，槽聲若鼓，聞數里。蓋本舂器，因用召衆也。一曰椎塘。志云：「羅浮山中人，鑿方木為舂，曰椎塘，昧爽聲震而虎潛。」韶臺詩：「椎塘聲合虎狼歸。」即舂堂也。 |
