先是，詔加梁崇義同平章事。崇義雖與李正己等連結，而兵勢寡弱，禮數最恭，上欲以恩信安之，詔加同平章事，賜鐡券。遣御史張著賫手詔徵之。及是，著至襄陽，崇義懼，陳兵而見，不受詔，上命李希烈督諸道兵討之，楊炎諫曰：「希烈狠戾，無親無功，猶屈彊不法，使平崇義，何以制之？」上不聴。荊南牙將呉少誠幽州潞人以取崇義之䇿干希烈，希烈以為前鋒以張萬福魏州元城人為濠州，隋置，今江南鳳陽府是。刺史時，內自關中，西暨蜀、漢，南盡江、淮、閩、越，北至太原，所在出兵，李正己遣兵扼徐州甬橋，一名符離橋，亦名永濟橋，在鳯陽府宿州北，跨汴水渦口，渦水入淮之口，在鳯陽府懷逺縣東北，渦水注見前。梁崇義阻兵襄陽，運路皆絶，人心震恐，江、淮進奉船千餘艘，泊渦口不敢進。上以張萬福為濠州刺史。萬福既至渦口，立馬岸上，發進奉船，淄青將士停岸，睥聣不敢動。尚父太尉中書令汾陽王郭子儀卒，諡曰忠武。子儀為上將，擁強兵，程元振、魚朝恩讒謗百端，詔書一紙徴之，無不即日就道，由是讒謗不行。嘗遣使至田承嗣所，承嗣西望拜之曰：此膝不屈于人若干年矣。李靈曜據汴州，公私物過汴者皆留之，惟子儀物不敢近，遣兵衛送出境，校中書令考凡二十四家，人三千人，八子七壻皆為顯官，諸孫數十人每問安不能盡辨，頷之而已。天下以其身為安危者殆三十年，功蓋天下而主不疑位，極人臣而衆不疾窮，奢極欲而人不非之，年八十五而終，其将佐為名臣者甚衆。
