解曰:墨杘、單至,則夷俟恐懼之異情也。嘽咺、憋懯,則迂緩輕發之異態也。巧佞、愚直,則懁利鄙樸之不同。婩斫、便辟,則彊閱柔佞之不一。●、情露,則多數淺中之殊情。鑳極、凌評,則訥澀辯給之異狀。眠娫、諈諉,則或暗於疏通,或樂於煩重。勇敢,怯疑,則或喜於奮厲,或安於畏懦。多偶,則雷同者也。自專,則任己者也。乘權,則假威以尚人也。隻立,則自奮而無輔者也。爰自大樸既散,斯民馳騖於是非利害之塗,情態百出,不可勝窮。列子姑即其情之所鍾,術之所傳,才之所施,行之所著、時之所遭者,概言其別有二十焉。情者自以智之深,術者自以巧之微,才者自以其有得,行者自以其無戾,時者自以其適宜,紛紛若若,人各是其所是而非其所非,胥如其志而窮共年,眾態之不一如此。究其所以,則是非成敗均於有生。美惡好醜同之於盡,是其所以感之於道而同歸於命也。雖咸之於道而不能知道,雖同歸於命而不能信命,任私智,執偏見,唯小己之是徇,忘天下之大公,若是則其比形於天地也,與夫夔蛇風目之相憐無以異矣,何貴於有生之最靈哉?唯體道而至於命者,則心凝而形釋。心凝則內無有於智態,形釋則外無有於貌色,是乃眾態之所資,而眾態無得而名者常逍遙乎天地之間,而心意自得,俯視眾態,不亦悲乎?
