1  | 殘毀身體，最悖人道。北方風氣剛勁，好勇鬭狠，甚且不惜傷身以易金；或因小忿，自戕其體而爭勝，尤為野蠻。光緒某年，歲將暮，京師琉璃廠西門餅店前，有少年裸下體臥地，不聲，店主舉桿麫大杖杖其骽，杖王五六十，突起而言曰：「如是，必喫矣。」店主曰：「任汝喫矣。」蓋臥地者積欠餅資，猶強取不已。故店主示以大杖，謂如不呼痛，免前欠，且自此不索直也。又一日，五道廟三岔路口，有黑衣快靴之群惡少洶洶自北來，中布衵服而外衣不鈕者一人，面血淋漓，一目已霍然眇，蓋喫寶局者也。喫寶局者，惡少日於賭館索費，任保護。然若輩眾多，必以甘心傷其支體者始得之。支體之傷分等計資，果剜目者列上等而獲多金矣。 |
