先是，唐主欲以劉夫人為皇后，而有正妃韓夫人在唐主正室曰衛國夫人韓氏，次曰燕國夫人伊氏人，次魏國夫人劉氏。太后素惡劉夫人，郭崇韜亦屢諫，唐主以是不果㑹。崇韜為嬖倖，勲舊所嫉，崇韜位兼將相，權侔人主，嬖倖僥求，多所摧抑，又自附汾陽王子儀之派，以膏梁自處，甄别流品，引㧞浮華，䣓棄勲䕶，由是嬖倖疾之于內勲，舊怨之于外。崇韜欎欎不得志，與所親謀赴本鎮以避之，所親以為不可，因說崇韜曰：「公若請立劉夫人為皇后，上必喜，內有皇后之助，則伶宦軰不能為患矣！」崇韜從其言，乃與宰相帥百官共奏請立之。后生于寒微，其父以醫卜為業，后㓜被掠得入宫，性狡悍淫妬，從唐主在魏父，聞其貴，諸魏上謁，時后方與諸夫人爭寵，以門地相髙，恥之，怒曰：「妾去鄉時，父不幸死，亂兵，妾哭而去，今何物田舍？翁敢至此！」命笞之，宮門又專務著財薪，蘓果茹皆販□之，至是四方貢獻皆分為二，一上天子，一上中宮，以是寳貨山積，惟用寫佛經施尼師而已。是時皇太后誥，皇后教與制勅交行于藩鎮，奉之如一。
