予曰：人存政舉宫牆之事，曷可緩乎？予因首倡其義，而姚守則力肩其事，於是庀材鳩工，先以僚屬之捐俸，繼以紳士之赴義，經營於壬子之冬，落成於癸丑之秋，凡為殿、為堂、為㢘、為門、為閣、為廨、為墉者，必堅必緻，莫不煥然一新，繼自今春秋，養老飲射，讀法於其中者，賢有司之事也，考鐘伐、鼓横經，論道於其中者，嚴師長之職也，歌詩習禮，則古昔稱先王，周旋揖讓於其中者，羣弟子之業也。夫道之在人，猶水之在地，無地而不有水，則無人而不具道，凡爾多士，既入是禮門，由是義路當念，人既具道而身又在名教之中，即當以天地萬物為已，任以君親，師友嚴立，身大而敦倫，明道致君，澤民精而窮理盡，性格致誠正高而立德，立言立功，以乘不朽，壙而仰觀，俯察叅贊，以隆守待，則達而在上為龔，黄為卓魯，為燕許事功，亦本之道德微而在下，或著書立說，或紹先開後，或輔經翼傳，文藻亦本之性功，古人云通三才，曰儒敷五教在寛、是所。望於師儒者，惟曰既勤垣墉，惟其塗，塈茨既勤樸斵惟其塗，丹艧將學於斯弦，誦於斯下學而上達，亦於此泮宫而始基之矣！若曰徒勤帖括以為羔鴈之助，博一第以為身家之謀，則攻其末而棄其本，精之漓者物必窳，諸士其當戒之哉？姚郡守復進而請曰學宫成，不可以無記也，遂援筆而記其事，以告來，茲是役也，贊其議者，方伯徐國相、觀察使佟國貞、董其成者，郡守姚琅，協其謀者，郡丞胡靖、懐令段鼎臣，身其勞者，學博莊名弼，例得並書。至洪武初，知府趙好徳創建以後，及順治間知府李士楨重修以前，其為修為建者，官不一，其人人不一其事，咸有功於聖賢，不可諼也，則又令掌故者，紀其人，紀其事於碑陰。十二年，改建啟聖祠於明倫堂，後二十一年，巡撫徐國相率知府劉橒、敎授郝毓㠁、訓導汪良相修治。五十八年，知府張楷重修啟聖祠明倫堂，六十年又重修。
