不累於俗,不為物累。不飾於物,不自矯飾。不苟於人,無所苟且。不忮於衆,無所忌害。願天下之安寧以活民命,以天下生民為重。人我之養畢足而止,不必求有餘也。以此白心,宣云:「暴白其志之無他。」古之道術有在於是者。宋鈃、尹文聞其風而悅之。成云:「宋、尹,並齊宣王時人,同遊稷下。(案:二見漢書藝文志名家。)宋著書一篇,尹著書二篇,咸師於黔而為之名也。性與教合,故聞風悅愛。」作為華山之冠以自表,郭云:「華山上下均平。」接萬物以別宥為始。釋文:「始,首也。崔云:『別善惡,宥不及。』」語心之容,命之曰心之行,成云:「命,名也。發語吐詞,每令心容萬物,即名此容受而為心行。」案:言我心如此,推心而行亦如此。合驩,釋文:「,崔音而,郭音餌。司馬云:『色厚貌。』崔、郭、王云:『和也。』和萬物,物合則歡矣。」以調海內,強以其道調之。請欲置之以為主。請欲時君皆置此心以為主。見侮不辱,不自謂辱。救民之鬭;禁攻寢兵,救世之戰。寢,息也。以此周行天下,上說下教,雖天下不取,不取其說。強聒而不舍者也。故曰:「上下見厭而強見也。」上,時君;下,謀臣。雖然,其為人太多,其自為太少,曰:其言若此。「請欲固置五升之飯足矣,先生恐不得飽,弟子雖飢,不忘天下。」成云:「宋、尹稱黔首為先生,自謂為弟子,先物後己故也。」案:宋、尹見為置餐者,言請欲先生惟置五升之飯足矣。日夜不休,曰:「我必得活哉!」圖傲乎救世之士哉!宣云:「又言『我必得以自活哉』!圖活民命,傲救世之士耳。」曰:「君子不為苛察,不以身假物。」以為无益於天下者,明之不如已也。又言『君子不宜苛察,故侮厭弗顧,不假外物以為身』,故飢飽弗計,人皆自炫其明。然計較太多,雖有益於世而莫之為,故宋、尹以為彼之無益於天下者,明之不如已也。以禁攻寢兵為外,宣云:「外以此救世。」以情欲寡淺為內,宣云:「內以此克己。」其小大精粗,其行適至是而止。其行止於是,則其道術之大小精粗亦不過如是。
