秋八月，召監潭州南嶽廟朱熹字元晦，一字仲晦，徽州婺源人。不至。熹少有求道之志，父松字喬年，度支員外郎、史館校勘，忤秦檜，出知饒州。方疾亟，屬熹曰：「胡憲字原仲，安國從子。劉勉之、字致中，建州崇安人。劉子翬字彥沖。韐，仲子。三人學有淵源，吾所敬畏，吾即死，汝往事之」。熹奉以告而稟學焉。既博求之經傳復徧交當世有識之士，及舉進士為泉州同安，晉縣，今屬福建泉州府。主簿罷歸，聞延平注見前。李侗、字愿中，南劔州劍浦人。學于羅從彥，字仲素，南劍州人。得伊洛之正，遂徒歩往從之，其學大要窮理致知，反躬踐實，而以居敬為主，築室于武夷山中，山在福建建寜府崇安縣南山，高五百仭，有三十六峯，其溪流分為九曲，昔有神人武夷君居此，故名，漢武帝嘗祀之。四方逰學之士從之者如市，上聞其賢，故召之，熹卒不至。憲生而靜慤，不妄笑語，紹興中與勉之同入太學，時禁伊洛之學，憲與勉之求得程頥書，潛抄黙誦，夜以繼日，聞涪陵譙定受易學於頥二人往從受業，久未有得，定曰：「心為物漬，故不有見，惟學乃可明耳。憲悟曰：「所謂學者，非克己工夫耶？」自是一意下學，不求人知。一旦，揖諸生歸崇安故山，力田賣藥，以奉其親，從遊日衆，號籍溪先生。仕終秘書省正字。勉之從譙定、劉安世、楊時受學卒業，乃還崇安，結草堂，讀書其中，力耕自給，澹然無求于世，惟與憲子翬日相往來講論，學者踵至，勉之隨其才器，為說聖賢之道，因以女妻熹門人，號曰白水先生。子翬以父死國難，痛憤致疾，棄興化通判，隱居武夷山中者十七年，與憲、勉之交相得，毎見講學，外無雜言，他所與遊，皆知名士，而期以任重致逺者，朱燾而已。熹從子翬遊，子翬以易之不遠復三言，俾佩之終身，學者稱為「屏山先生」。 譙定，字天授，涪陵人，劉安世，字器之，魏人興化宋軍，今為府，屬福建。
